Julian came to Ross & Co having been a partner of Clyde & Co for over 23 years where the three existing partners of Ross & Co, Ian Ross, John Blacker and Jane Martineau, were previously also partners. A substantial part of Julian's time in practice has been spent overseas.
He worked in Hong Kong from 1981-5 where he is also admitted as a solicitor, and from 1990-6 in Dubai. From Dubai he developed and managed the firm's regional litigation practice in the Middle East before moving to Singapore in 1996 to run the South East Asia Regional Practice of Clyde & Co as Managing Partner. He was consistently recognised there by leading industry publications, such as Chambers Global, Asia Pacific Legal 500, and AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers, as a leading international lawyer, principally in the field of shipping.
In addition to his time overseas, Julian has worked for more than twelve years in the City of London. Julian's main areas of practice almost exactly reflect the main areas of Ross & Co's practice; shipping, insurance and international trade. But, six years in the Middle East and eleven years in the Far East have given him first hand experience of dealing with contentious matters, and problem solving, in those jurisdictions which is matched by few lawyers working in London.
