John has been advising on international trade, shipping and energy disputes for over 25 years. Before joining Ross & Co he was a partner at Clyde & Co for 20 years and was joint head of their Hong Kong office for three years.
John handles all types of trade, commercial and shipping problems from both upstream and downstream oil and gas disputes through to finance disputes, and to major shipping casualties and straight cargo problems. He has particular experience of all types of charter dispute including: cruise ship charters; claims involving the sale and purchase of ships and goods; and claims with multi jurisdictional issues.
He has advised on numerous LMAA and ICC arbitrations and Commercial Court and Appeal Court actions. He has given expert evidence on English law to foreign courts and with Ian Ross has dealt with a number of cases involving European law including before the European Court of Justice. He also has extensive experience in successful mediations particularly in multi party disputes.
